As part of our ‘Could you open your door?’ campaign, we sat down with some of our existing foster carers to see what inspired them to foster.

Kamren and Denise

Tell us a bit about yourselves…

We’re Kamren and Denise, we’re an outgoing family with four children of our own. We’ve been fostering since May 2010. We foster children and young people of all aged, from 0 up to 18 years old, and can care for up to three children and young people at a time. Before we fostered we were both working – in Senior Management for an International Company and in Retail.

What initially inspired you to foster?

We just really wanted to try and make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children.

How was the initial assessment process?

Simple and very straight forward to be honest.

What’s been your proudest moment?

There have been too many proud moments in our fostering lives. Some notable ones include:

1. Moving babies we’ve cared for on to their forever adoptive homes
2. One of our young people overcoming so much and going on to become a Chartered Accountant.
3. Seeing many children and young people we’ve cared for being successfully rehabilitated back home to their families.

How do you find the support you receive?

IMPECCABLE! We’ve loved a lot of the training we’ve received, especially Equality and Diversity, Changing Lives and the E-learning courses.

What would you say to anyone considering fostering? 

If you think you can provide children and young people with a loving, safe and caring environment, then absolutely go for it!
