Why Liverpool?

By fostering with Liverpool Council, you’ll be making a difference to the most vulnerable children and young people from your local area.

Foster carers work in partnership with the team around the child in their care, and by becoming a foster carer with Liverpool Council you’ll benefit from working directly with this team, including the child’s Social Worker, education and health professionals, resulting in better communication, support and outcomes for our children.

In Liverpool we pride ourselves on the relationships between our Foster Carers, Children and our Supervising Social Workers. These close and supportive relationships are crucial to successful fostering as they allow open and honest communication, build trust and respect and can provide collaborative problem solving which results in better outcomes for our children.

Support

Our committed support is evidenced by our strong professional relationships with our foster carers, many of whom have been fostering with us for 10,20 and even up to 50 years! We offer practical and emotional support, to ensure you feel fully supported in your role as a foster carer. We’ll be with you every step of the way!

Social Work Support

We offer:

  • Your own dedicated Fostering Social Worker, who will be your main point of contact within our team. They will come and see you regularly to celebrate successes, talk through any challenges, provide one to one support, and help you access a range of tools and training that is relevant to you and the child you’re caring for.
  • Our team of Family Support Workers are available to provide additional support for you and the child you’re caring for. Their wealth of experience working with young people is really valuable here!
  • We have two duty workers at the end of the phone all day, every day, during office hours.
  • Children’s Advice and Support Service is available for out of hours support, 24/7.
  • A team of Independent Reviewing Officers who oversee the experience of children and young people and hold our service to account on their behalf.
  • The child or young person you are caring for will also have their own dedicated social worker who we have good links with.
  • We hold a monthly foster carer forum with guest speakers on a range of topics. This is a great opportunity to meet with other foster carers and provide input and feedback to our service.
  • As a new foster carer, you’ll have the opportunity to be linked in with a Foster Carer Mentor who can act as a ‘buddy ’ throughout your assessment and during your early days fostering and beyond.
  • We give special recognition to foster carers on a regular basis for a variety of things, including long-service, to celebrate successes or simply to acknowledge our appreciation for their commitment and dedication to the child in their care.
