"The best thing about fostering for Cheshire West and Chester Council is the support and access to services. Training is on your doorstep and very accessible, along with it being a great big sense of community."

Benefits

Of course, being a Foster Carer is hugely rewarding on many levels, but it also takes lots of practical provision to make it possible. We’ve always been proud to offer our carers incentives that go above and beyond the standard and are now in a position to be able to offer even more.

Support

Our support is unparalleled, evidenced by our strong professional relationships with our foster carers and a high retention rate. We’ve got carers who have been with us for 10, 20, 30, even 40+ years! We offer support that is both practical and emotional, to ensure you’re well equipped to undertake the fostering role and know you’re never on your own.

Social Work Support

We offer:

  • Your own dedicated Supervising Social Worker, who will come and see you regularly for formal supervision to ensure your wellbeing, celebrate your successes and work through any concerns. They’re also available via telephone and email and to meet in between visits as required.
  • A worker on duty in the Fostering Teams all day, every day during office hours.
  • A 24/7 out-of-hours Emergency Duty Team (EDT), staffed by Cheshire West and Chester Council Social Workers.
  • An Independent Review service, made up of a team of Independent Reviewing Officers, who hold us to account including specified Reviewing Officers for your own reviews.
  • In addition, the child or young person in your care will also have their own Social Worker to support them and yourselves.
  • Active Foster Carers support groups held across the Borough on a monthly basis.
  • A Foster Carer ‘buddy’ scheme to support you in the early stages of your fostering journey and beyond.

Partner services

We offer:

As the Local Authority, one of our biggest benefits is that we have a huge range of internal and external partner services. These include:

  • The Police
  • The Virtual School, who oversee the attainment and wellbeing of all children in care
  • Health - each child has their own named Child in Care Nurse who undertake their medicals
  • The Caring to Care team - offering therapeutic support to our children and Foster Carers
