Antiques Roadshow Expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan has appeared on the One Show and talked about how important his foster family were and how they saved his life. He said: “I discovered what it was like to become part of a loving family.”

He visited the house where he was fostered. “This is where I felt safe. I never wanted to leave it. This was the home of the Hode family, who took me in and changed my life.

Ronnie also met up with his three foster sisters. “From the moment I met Christine, Jackie and Lynette, I felt I’d arrived home.

“I don’t remember which one of you I met first, but I must have been about six.

“I had the best time with my foster family and at the helm was Molly, who I called Mummy Hode. Without her love, I don’t think I’d be here today. She was an extraordinary woman.”

He told his foster sisters, “It was the first time, when I came to you, that I would be asked what I would like for dinner or for pudding, and that’s what made me feel valued.”

“The Hodes saved me from a life that was very difficult.”

Ronnie also spent time with foster carers Karen and Neil Goodman and their foster daughter Leah. They had fostered Leah sometime after her mum went to prison. “I lived with my birth parents, and I had a sister and a brother,” Leah said.

“You had?” asked Ronnie.

“Yes. One day, I think, it became too difficult for my mum, and she killed my brother and sister…I was three.

“It was difficult, all those years.”

Leah’s life changed when Karen and Neil became her foster parents. She says they made it easier and her foster dad explains that they helped her deal with it and move on. He added: “What you see is an amazing person. She is so positive, she hasn’t let her past define her. It’s been a journey.”

Ronnie ended the piece saying how in awe is he is of foster parents like Karen, Neil and Mummy Hode.
