Clare is 59 and from Stockton Heath. She has fostered for Warrington Council for five years. She decided to become a foster carer because she had experience of being a looked after child herself.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?
“I have been married for 16 years and I have one daughter, she is 26. I used to work in catering in a high school.”
How many children have you fostered and what types of fostering have you done?
“I have fostered teenagers and two have gone onto independent living. I have also done respite fostering.”
Who lives at home?
“Me, my husband and my foster daughter.”
Do you have any advice for anyone thinking of becoming a foster carer or starting the process?
“Be patient and listen and learn to trust.”
What have been the positives of fostering?
“Knowing that I have done everything in my power to help. I’ve been able to teach the teenagers how to manage money and how to deal with bills etc. Something simple like teaching them to make lists can really make a big difference when they leave school or college.
“They all know that they can call me at any time and I will be there for them. That’s a wonderful feeling.”
