Yesterday, on Monday 9th May – to mark the start of Foster Care Fortnight, we hosted an Afternoon Tea Event- a huge thank you to our carers for all their hard work and dedication- particularly over the past two very challenging years.

Over 100 foster carers from across Cheshire West and Chester, Halton and Warrington, came together to catch up, share stories and make new connections.

The Hayloft in Widnes provided the perfect backdrop; with tea, cakes and first class service in abundance.

Although the event was primarily focused on the grown ups; colouring sheets, and the on-site playground, tractor barn and plethora of animals provided entertainment for the babies and pre-school aged children carers brought along with them.

Helen Brackenbury, Director of Children’s Services at Cheshire West and Chester Council, welcomed the attendees. As Chair of the Foster4 Board, she extended her gratitude and admiration for the care and dedication carers have shown to the children and young people of all ages and stages.

Sharon Cooper, Head of Children in Care at Warrington Borough Council, gave a very special presentation to Ros and Warren Whalley, foster carers who are this year celebrating their 50th year of fostering in Warrington- a true inspiration!

Cllr Bob McInerney, Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Children, Young People and Families, along with senior managers and staff from across the three LAs, were on hand to greet the carers from their respective LAs.

The event tied in perfectly with this year’s #FosteringCommunities theme, and also served as the perfect opportunity to launch three very important documents that the fostering services and Foster4 have been developing over the past few months.

The Fostering Family Support Packages set out the vast amount of support that the three LAs offer to carers and the children in their care- everything from pool cars, to priority swimming lessons, to therapeutic intervention.

We believe the support offer at Foster4 is unparalleled- and is really what sets us head and shoulders above others- making us by far the agency of choice for those considering fostering in Cheshire.

Hard copies of the documents were given out to all carers attending the event and are available to view online below. They will not only serve as invaluable reference guides for existing carers to draw from , but as reassurance, information and inspiration for the next generation of carers.
