Would-be foster carers often ask us how school places are managed for children in care. Do children move to a school close to the foster carers home? Who attends parents evening? How can foster carers help children settle and thrive?

As schools return for a new year, this week’s feature sets out how Local Authorities support children and young people to maintain their place at school, wherever appropriate.

Simon, Headteacher of the Virtual School in Warrington, explains the additional support children in care receive.

Foster Carer Lisa outlines the role of the carer in supporting children and young people with their education, through nurture, understanding and developing close links with their schools and education providers.
