Annette is 52 and from Runcorn, she has been fostering with Halton Borough Council for 4 years.
Annette lives with her husband Lee, they have 5 children who are now adults and 8 grandchildren. As a family “we love going theme parks museums cinema theatre and music events with the kids. Plus we love being at home with them all, our mad house is a fun house, we love to laugh.”
Have you permanently fostered a child (or is it something you would like to do in the future?) Please talk through your story and why it was right for your family and child/children. What are the pros and cons of permanent/long term fostering?
“Giving the kids the knowledge that they’re loved and safe and will always be a permanent part of the family, is giving them the stability and comfort they haven’t had. That’s why we are in the process of Special Guardianship Order.”
We would love to encourage more people aged 50+ to foster. Can you share any advice or thoughts if you are 50+. How has fostering changed your life? Pros and cons? Any regrets? What have been the highlights?
“No regrets whatsoever. If you have the love and the time to give there’s no better feeling than knowing you’re making a difference for the child in your care.”
How do you find the support we give you? Do you have close relationships with other foster carers?
“Our foster family is outstanding. We have our own groups plus a charity group. It’s fantastic to know that there’s always someone on the end of the phone at any time.”
Alternatively, why not pop along to one of our Information Sessions? We have in-person Information Sessions and virtual Information Sessions.
