If you’re considering fostering, the initial home visit can feel daunting. But don’t worry – our fostering teams aim to make it as informal and friendly as possible! During the visit, we’ll get to know you, your family, and your home environment. We want to understand if fostering is the right path for you, and we’ll answer any questions you have about the process.
Our social workers will explore your current situation, home circumstances, family life, fostering requirements, and more. It’s a conversation that should make you feel comfortable and heard. We also want to know about you, your hobbies and interests, and anything else that makes you unique.
It’s important to be aware that some questions may feel personal or intrusive, but it’s necessary as we recruit people who are best suited to care for children and young people. During the visit, you’ll meet one of our supervising social workers and sometimes a Foster Carer may join them.
The main Foster Carer and partner (if applicable) should be present at the initial visit, and other household members are more than welcome to participate.
After the visit, the fostering team will write a report that recommends whether or not your application should proceed.
