Fostering is caring for children when they can’t be cared for by their parents.
This is usually because children are not being cared for safely, due to some form of neglect. Other contributing factors may include parental physical or mental ill health, drug and alcohol misuse, or domestic abuse within their home. Some children may become accommodated into Local Authority care simply because there is no one else to care for them for a period of time, such as if a parent is going into hospital.
